Following the Harry Potter theme, the costumes follow what is described in the Harry Potter books what characters wear. The whole cast wears black robes over dark pants and a white button-down shirt. Foot attire is kept simple and uniform with Converse sneakers and all actresses have their hair tied back. Badges and ties are added to the costume to sort characters into families and houses. The two houses of Romeo and Juliet, Montague and Capulet, are represented by the two famous houses of the Harry Potter series, Gryffindor and Slytherin. Those of Montague wear a Gryffindor badge, red and golden ties, and red accessories. Those of the Capulets wear a Slytherin badge, green and silver ties, and green accessories. Since Mercutio is not a part of the family, he is dressed in Ravenclaw attire; a Ravenclaw badge, blue and bronze, and blue accessories. All cast members carry a wizard weapon, a wand, other than a sword like those in Romeo and Juliet.
The Montague family, Romeo, Benvolio, and Lady Montague, wear a Gryffindor badge proudly on their chests. Romeo has a red and golden scarf, a red hat and gloves to show his loyalties to his family and house. His mother shows her pride in her red sweater and lipstick as she defends Romeo’s innocence. Benvolio also wears a red and golden tie for his family.
The Capulet family, Lady Capulet, Tybalt and his crew, are decorated in green attire and a Slytherin badge each. Tybalt has a green ribbon on his hat and a green and silver tie, while his crew of one proudly wears as much green to show enthusiasm for the Slytherins. Lady Capulet has a green dress and a Slytherin badge to hint at her pride.
Mercutio is not tied to the Montague family through blood so he belongs to the Ravenclaw house. In the Harry Potter series, Ravenclaws have always showed a bias toward Gryffindors and have created a close relationship with that house. Mercutio is friends with Romeo and Benvolio, and acts as if he is a Montague, though he is not blood related. So, Mercutio wears a Ravenclaw badge and blue and bronze colors.
The Prince has no specific ties with either family, so the character does not wear any house colors. The Prince does however wear a hat similar to the Harry Potter character, Minerva McGonagall, who remains neutral throughout the series. She does however have a slight pull toward the Gryffindor house, as does the Prince when Romeo kills Mercutio’s slayer.
